CrossFit Confessions (Part 10)

By: Deb Carr

I have to admit, today was a great day and it was needed. I had a tough weekend, feeling down, questioning why, when, how – you name it. Brian snapped me out of it real quick. I’m back on track and today the track is a 5K run. Not only did I finish, but I finished during class time (I sometimes run over). Realizing on my last 800m I was going to do this, I actually picked up the pace. I never stopped running – RUN DEBRA RUN! I zigzagged around cars, I jumped over hurdles (only kidding), I rocked and I loved it. What is it about CrossFit? It is so addicting. Thank you CrossFit and thank you AC/DC for great running music. I completed my first 5K!

PS, I was reading previous confessions trying not to be redundant. July 1st, 2011, I confessed I will never be able to do a pull-up. Well here’s the Editors Note: January 9th, 2013 I did my first pull-up. Work hard and leave the doubts at home because good things will come. Now if I listen to my own advice, I shouldn’t have any more tough weekends. HA! Fat Chance.

CrossFit Confessions (Part 9)

Forgive me but it has been a long time since my last confession. I’ve come to the realization of just how far I’ve come. Today in class, I held a plank for 2 minutes and 45 seconds. My previous time was 1 min 30 sec and before that, 30 sec. There are not many workouts I can kick butt that I know of, but WOW! What an improvement. I didn’t even know I could do that. As a senior member of CrossFit – longevity, not age – I am getting fitter, stronger, and people are noticing. It’s taken a long time, 15 months, but now I know I can do this. It’s still a challenge and I still struggle, but give me the time I need and I’m there – A CrossFitter. I have to give thanks to everyone at U R CrossFit. Without their inspiration, support, and patience, I would be that unfit, flabby woman I was 15 months ago. They Rock! I Know!

CrossFit Confessions (Part 8)

By: Debra Carr

I thought my confessions were over. Once I became a CrossFitter, there no longer seemed a need to confess my trials and tribulations, but I was wrong. I recently missed 2 1/2 weeks due to vacation and illness. My fellow CrossFitters missed me and I missed them. After working out again and wondering how I would do, I went home and that great feeling that sparked the confessions in the first place returned.I can’t explain it. I usually keep things to myself. I just have a need to write down how good I feel and share what CrossFit has done for me. It’s a natural high. After missing so much time, I know my muscles will be sore, but I’ll be back tomorrow and then next day. Just can’t get enough.

CrossFit Confessions (Part 7)

I have to confess-crossfit is much more than a fitness program. It has
crossed over to all aspects of my life. Yes-I am physically stronger
but I am mentally stronger too. My self esteem and confidence level is
through the roof. Not only do I look better, but I feel great and I am
ready to take on any challenge-watch out world! I will no longer
consider myself the old slow one. I am a crossfitter and I like it!

CrossFit Confessions (Part 6)

By: Debra Carr

I started CrossFit because I had to do something. My physical well-being was pathetic. You should see the indentation of my butt in the couch! Getting a new couch was out of the question. After 6 months of CrossFit, I may still be the slow one, but outside of CrossFit, I am a new person. I am definitely more fit, I look better, and I feel a confidence that I lost which extends to the rest of my life. Economic times are tough, and I feel the pinch, but I’ll cut something else back if need be. I’ve been told my confessions are inspirational, but in reality, my classmates inspire me. Without them, I could not run 600m, deadlift 95lbs, or perform real burpees. I could not ever touch my toes. I started CrossFit because I had to do something. Now I want to do it.

Editors note: For those not used to CrossFit terminology, a Burpee is a simple move you can perform anywhere. Start in a standing position, then crouch down and put your hands on the floor. Kick you feet back to a plank position and lower your whole body until it is touching the floor. It should feel similar to a push-up, although the form can be loose. Now kick or step your feet back under your trunk, stand back up and jump up in the air. That series completes 1 burpee. Here at U R CrossFit, we have a fun challenge called the Summer of 1000 Burpees. Everyone has improved immensely and several have already passed the 1000 mark and have not slowed down.

CrossFit Confessions (Part 5)

I was thrilled. Another baby-boomer joined CrossFit. She was impressive -put me to shame. But then I do not compare myself to anyone, remember? Still, I hiked the Georgia Mountains while my friend waited in the car and I bogey-boarded the Atlantic Ocean and got the longest ride of the day. My husband noticed -to his and my delight- I am getting my curves back. All I can say is sign me up again. I can’t stop now.
